ROADTOWN Tortola, BVI, May 3rd 2011 - The Cane Garden Bay resident who still seems “as fit as a fiddle” proved his agility yesterday at the officially opening ceremony for Senior Citizen’s Month, where he danced, sang and greeted several persons including Government officials attending the event.

Mr. Industrious was recognised during the ceremony and a special song was sung in his honour.

“I am happy to be here,” he announced and had the crowd joined with him in singing one of his favourite songs, “Jesus is coming again”.

This centenarian still enjoys cooking his own meals, as well as, singing and dancing.

He also enjoys conversing with anyone and always bears a pleasant smile when he is meeting anyone. He is also very open to sharing the ups and downs of his life and how he managed to reach such an age and still going extremely strong.

Speaking at the ceremony to open the Seniors Citizens’ Month yesterday May 2, Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Dancia Penn QC referred to the words of an esteem Chief Justice who said, “When an elder dies a library is burnt to the ground”.

She encouraged the young generation to “read and appreciate these libraries” and urged the “libraries” to also be open for reading.

The Minister also called for seniors to be celebrated every day and not just the one month designated for the official celebrations.
