BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TEN students from grades one to five of the Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School will be competing in the 2011 Rainbow Pageant scheduled for Carnival Village at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12.

The students are Nadacia Chapman and Laurick Browne of Grade One, Jaeda Arthurton and Tyon Wilkinson of Grade Two, Andria Esdaille and Onaje Caines of Grade Three, Breana Hutchinson and Philip Browne of Grade Four, and Tavelle McSheen and Ervin Hanley of Grade Five.

The pageant will take place under the theme ‘Moulding the Children of our Nation through Consistent Character Education’.

They will be competing in four judged segments: Getting To Know Me, Expressive Number, Creative Wear and Afternoon Delight after warming up to the crowd in the Production Number.

The pageant is part of the school’s 11th anniversary of No TV Week celebrations which will be held from May 8 to 13.

According to a teacher at the school, Donya Francis, this year they are focusing on character building and each grade would speak to a different character trait.

“It is our hope that when the students would leave these walls they would be better able to live in this community and world,” he added.

Syneja Richards and Xaviee Pennyfeather currently hold the title after some stunning performances last year under the theme ‘Fight Overweight and Obesity’.
