BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 9th 2011 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister and Incoming Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, has been briefed on the upcoming CARICOM Heads of Government Conference to be held in St. Kitts in July.

Acting Secretary General of CARICOM, Her Excellency Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite briefed Prime Minister Douglas at his office prior to the start of last week’s 14th Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of the Caribbean Community.

Ambassador Applewhaite brought Dr. Douglas up to date on plans for the 32nd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort from July 1st to 4th 2011.

Prime Minister Douglas, the longest serving Head of Government in the Caribbean, will assume the Chairmanship of CARICOM and Chair the meeting.

The Acting Secretary General also discussed several other issues on the CARICOM agenda including the United Nations High Level Meeting on Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases in New York in September, the CARICOM-Australia Ministerial Meeting on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Australia in October and the CARICOM-Cuba Summit in December.
