12 pleaded not guilty at beginning of May 2011 Criminal Assizes

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWELVE of the 15 accused answering charges for new matters at the May 2011 Criminal Assizes have pleaded not guilty to their crimes at the Basseterre High Court.

     

    Elvis Glasgow and Jason Liddie, who did not appear in court, were jointly charged with indecent assault which occurred on April 1, 2010. The latter was also charged with burglary, larceny and receiving committed on September 19, 2010.

     

    The new assizes began yesterday (May 10) with a schedule of 15 new matters that will join 23 traversed matters from the previous assizes.

     

    Eight are sexually-related matters - rape, buggery, incest and indecent assault.

     

    Those on rape charges are: Lincoln Storrod, who was charged on June 19, 2010 in Camps for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a female without her consent; Mario Harvey allegedly raped a female sometime between April 1-29, 2010 at Stone Fort Flats; and Gavin Warner allegedly raped a female on September 1, 2010 in Old Road.

     

    They all pleaded not guilty.

     

    Harvey, Kurt Prentice and Joseph Herbert also pleaded not guilty to the charge of buggery.

     

    It is alleged that Prentice committed the crime between February 5-6 2011 in Newton Ground, while Harvey and Herbert are jointly charged for allegedly committing the act between July 9 and October 30, 2010.

     

    Rafael Adams pleaded not guilty to incest of his 18-year-old daughter which allegedly occurred in Basseterre between July 8-August 27, 2010, and Carl Warner pleaded not guilty to indecent assault of a female on August 28, 2010 in Lodge.

     

    Joseph Gardener, Junior Matthew and Neil Harvey all pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent and unlawful wounding, but the prosecutor alleged that they did commit the crimes against St. Clair Elliott at Beaumont Park in Dieppe Bay on April 5, 2010.

     

    Elmond Dickenson allegedly inflicted grievous bodily harm on Anthony Thomas in Lodge Village on November 6, 2010. He also pleaded not guilty.

     

    Chadin and Kassim Buchanan both pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful wounding and the wounding with intent of Leroy Veira on November 14, 2010 in Sandy Point.

     

    Kern Cabey also pleaded not guilty to his charges. He was charged with two counts of endangering life and to cause serious injury to property at the RLB International Airport’s Fire Hall on January 14, 2010.

     

    Gibson Blake pleaded guilty to abduction and burglary, which in Bird Rock occurred on July 10, 2010. He pleaded guilty to forcibly abducting with intent to rape Denise Edwards against her will and also burglarising her home where he stole several items.

     

    He will be sentenced on May 26, 2011.

     

    Kerim Rawlins, who pleaded not guilty to robbery and receiving of items to the value of EC$1 300, will have his case heard today.

     

    The court was told that the unrepresented Rawlins was in possession of a firearm when he robbed Arlington Berridge of Basseterre of a Blackberry Curve and a gold-filled chain.
