BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER winning the Green Valley Senior Calypso title for two consecutive years, Singing Angie is hoping to be the first to ‘three-peat’ when the competition kicks off on Saturday, June 11.

Born Andrea Walters, she has been going under the moniker Singing Angie since her introduction into the calypso arena some six years ago.

According to the voluptuous singer, it was a happy moment for her in 2009 when she won her first Green Valley Calypso title, and an even happier one in 2010 after competing for several years.

Walters indicated that her reign has been dormant because at no time was she called upon to represent the crown or green Valley.

In 2009 she won the crown singing ‘Queen Of Green’ and ‘Life is Like That’, while in 2010 she sang ‘Tribute To Green Valley’ and ‘Heaven Knows’.

Walters said this year the competitors would only have to sing one song and she would not release her track until the penultimate week of the competition.

“My song is finished but I won’t release the name either. All I can say is that it is a beauty of one song,” she added.

The proud two-time Green Valley Calypso Queen stated that her fans could definitely expect a three-peat.

Walters said she is not worried about the other calypsonians because she knows how to elevate herself and she always puts out her best.

She told this media house that Cliff Richards of SKNVibes, who is known in the calypso arena as the ‘New Kid On The Block’, is the only other person to have won the crown for two consecutive years (2005-2006) and she is looking forward to break that deadlock.

Asked if he planned to compete against Walters in order to ensure she does not break his record, Richards said he would not re-enter the calypso arena but would congratulate her or anybody if they were to surpass his winning streak.

Walters said this is something she has dreamt about and if it happens it would mean a lot to her.

In a recent interview with the Green Valley Festival Chairman, Vernon Benjamin, he indicated that unlike the norm where the calypsonians sing two songs, they would only be performing one because they are hoping to have 15 competitors to commemorate their 15th Anniversary.
