Nevis junior team ready says Coach and Manager

Press Release

CHARLESTOWN Nevis, May 18th 2011 - As the Nevis Junior track and field team gets ready for a trip to Anguilla this weekend in order to participate in the Leeward Islands track and field competition, the ET Willet Park was a bee hive of activity yesterday as the athletes went through their final paces in preparation for the big event.

They were closely supervised by Coach and former Olympian Kurvin Wallace and Manager of the team, Kimbell Ward.

Coach Wallace expressed confidence that arguably this is the best team that Nevis will be sending to the meet in a long time and stated that he expects to return with championship honours. He was pleased that a fair representation of the top athletes from the InterPrimary meet had been selected to the Nevis team.

Manager Ward on the other hand indicated that the Nevis contingent will link up with the team from St.Kitts and will travel by boat (MV Caribe Surf) to Anguilla.  He noted that some fears had been expressed about the turbulence of the trip and the possible effects it may have on the athletes but noted that the choice of the boat was due to the fact that the airfare cost was too exorbitant and in such a case too many of the athletes would have been left behind.

He also noted that a number of parents will also be making the trip and there were still a limited number of seats available. These will be given on a first come, first served basis. The athletes are expected to leave the Charlestown pier sometime on Friday morning.

Both gentlemen are confident that this particular team will do Nevis really proud and they expect to be holding the winner’s trophy come Monday 23rd May when they are expected to return home.

Meanwhile, at the nearby Villa –CSS grounds, Assistant Coach Eddy Caines took time out to train those athletes who will be participating in the high jump events.  Caines was an outstanding high jumper during his high school years and his young guards are also expected to do well
