S Model Management hosts ‘Molding through Modelling’ Model Camp

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – S Model Management (SMM) continues on its mission of helping to improve the local modelling and fashion industry with an ongoing Model Camp which began on April 30 under the theme “Molding through Modelling”.

The 10-week Model Camp will feature five photo-shoots consisting of beauty/glamour, swimwear, high fashion commercial shoot and lifestyle photographs.

There will also be weekly sessions on various topics, including hair and skin care, makeup, public-speaking, self-esteem, runway training, photo-shoot techniques and basic dance.

“We have also invited several outstanding persons in society to speak to the models on the importance of being active in their community and on becoming role models. It is the agency’s hope that our models will not only become top models but also outstanding role models in our society,” said Suelika Creque, CEO of SMM.

So far the camp has had two photo-shoots done by Garth Archibald and Saju n’Galla and also a runway session facilitated by Jason Amory of Movado Model Agency.

Richard Munro will also be the photographer for two of the photo-shoots.

Creque explained that the first day of the camp was an evaluation session where the models presented themselves to a panel that consisted of herself, Amory, Archibald and other members of the agency’s team.

Some of the presenters who agreed to speak to the models include Julie Martin, Shanda LaBega, Julie Charles, Loughlin Tatem, Pam Hendrickson, Jihan Williams, Alicia Collins and Iantavian Queeley.

“One of the very important aspects of being a model, if not the most, is your esteem, and we’re very pleased to be welcoming back motivational speaker Julie Charles to speak to the models once again about believing in themselves, knowing who they are and having a high self-esteem.

“As many know, we have adapted a charity and we do work for Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation. We will have the founder of that organisation speak to the models and we will also brainstorm ideas on more projects we can work on to promote the awareness of Breast Cancer, Creque said.

Creque said that Jihan Williams will speak on behalf of Hope Tears, a group of which she is a member while Alicia Collins will speak on behalf of the Saddlers-based group SOYAR.

“Of course, the camp will not be complete without the fashion aspect and we’re hoping to have one of our local designers speak to the models about their personal style and also what designers expect from that,” she added.

A special promotional photo-shoot is also planned for the Model Camp where the models who are over the age of 18 will promote the local drink, BeeHive, in a club scene photo-shoot.

“We feel that the most effective way to promote a product is naturally by the use of our human resource, and models can use their beauty and expertise to promote the drink. We expect that this shoot will create more hype surrounding the drink,” Creque said.

The sessions are being held at the Football House on Lozack Road, and the agency’s CEO said they are pleased and thankful to the organisation for providing the facility.

“We also have a special photo-shoot to promote the sport of football in a ‘haute couture’ concept. We want to expose our models to the talents of the Federation’s athletes whilst promoting the prolific sport of football in a different light to the public, so the shoot will also incorporate some of the Federation’s top footballers,” she said.

The sessions and various shoots are being video graphed by local videographer Ryddim Magazine, which will produce online episodes for public viewing.

The agency has been in existance for two years and first held an in-house awards ceremony for its models. Creque revealed that they are hoping to plan another awards ceremony later this year.

Creque declared that more of their models are gearing up to participate in competitions and she is extending congratulations to those who have competed this year.

One of the agency’s youngest models, Ngozi Nicholls, won the Miss Back to Roots Pageant while two of its models, Eusha Johnson and Zeia Warner, placed First and Second Runners-up respectively at the G Squared Arts Miss Black San Swimsuit Pageant.
