St. Kitts Business Update

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris, Temporary Governor for St. Kitts and Nevis on the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Board of Governors at the 41st Annual Meeting in Trinidad, disclosed that economic activity in the Federation has declined.
     
    Records show that economic activity in St. Kitts and Nevis is estimated to have contracted by 4.2 percent in 2010 when compared to 2009 when a contraction of 4.4 percent was recorded.

     

    Even with the documented decrease in economic activities, businesses around St. Kitts are still putting themselves out there and some are even launching money saving promotions.

     

    On that note, SKNVibes presents another edition of St. Kitts Business Update.

    S L Horsford & Co. Ltd. recently opened the largest and most modern Service Station in the Federation and consumers can expect lots of customer promotions in the upcoming months.

     

    The Furniture and Appliances Department is giving cash back coupons for free groceries with every Higher Purchase made. Consumers are also given a chance to win a free living room set, dining room set, bedroom set or a kitchen appliances package with every EC$100 spent. This promotion will run from June to December 2011.

     

    S L Horsford’s Building Centre will be having a Father’s Day Sale on Saturday, June 18 where customers are offered 30 percent off items storewide. On that same day, there will be Men’s Health and Wellness at Horsford’s Building Centre on Wellington Road, Basseterre from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and at the Nevis branch in Stoney Grove from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Medical practitioners will be giving free blood pressure and diabetes checkups. There will also be a Men’s Health Counselling on prostate cancer and the heart.
    LIME continues its Phone Evolution Photo contest which will end on June 10. It challenges individuals to submit a colour photograph of the oldest telephone they own or have legitimate access to. Participants can submit one or several photos and should be emailed to
    oldphone@lime.com accompanied by the entrant’s name, date of birth, full address and contact details.

     

    One winning photo will be chosen and the person who made the submission will win a coveted BlackBerry Smartphone. The aim of the contest is to highlight the evolution of the telecoms industry and telephone equipment over the years.

     

    In the coming weeks, the telecommunications company will also be launching the most innovative phone in the world, the iPhone 4.

     

    The TDC Group of Companies (TDC) is celebrating its 38th year of service to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and, in understanding that this year has been very stringent on the society’s disposable income, it has put in place several mechanisms, mostly money saving promotions, to ensure that the citizens’ needs and wants are met.

     

    The Home and Building Depots in St. Kitts and Nevis are currently offering up to 60 percent off furniture and household items, and up to 30 percent off AC units, fans, selected refrigerators and inflatable pools, while FINCO is giving its customers a chance to borrow up to EC$10 000 unsecured loan to treat themselves to a dream vacation, and spend EC$100 or more at FINCO, Home and Building Depots, TDC Hire Purchase and Automotive (Nevis branch only for Automotive) and enter to win $1 000 cash. There will be one lucky winner on each island every two months. 

     

    TDC Hire Purchase on both islands are taking 20 percent off Hire Purchase transactions on furniture, electronics and appliances every Friday until June 17, while the Automotive Departments are giving 15 percent off the purchase of any two Good Year Tyres and 20 percent off the purchase of three or more.

     

    Thrifty Rentals is currently offering a rent-a-vehicle for three days and pay for only two days, or rent a vehicle for seven days and pay for only five, plus a free Domino’s VIP card with every rental. And City Drug Store is offering a free Laptop Sleeve with the purchase of a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Notebook with webcam, 2 GB Memory, 250 Hard Drive for only $2 050.

     

    TDC has also recently revamped its website to a new and innovative design. Log on to www.tdclimited.com and browse their new features, including the first ever of its kind in St. Kitts ‘TDC Nergy’ that allows customers to search for products based on price, model, description, etc.

     

    The Immaculate Conception Catholic School will be hosting a Grand Dinner and Auction on today (May 28) at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort Ballroom from 7:00 p.m. Items to be auctioned include jewellery, paintings, dinner vouchers, weekend vacation packages, photography packages, furniture and electronics. The dinner will be buffet style; tickets are EC$150 and can be purchased at the school, which is located at West Independence Square Street, and Harper’s Office Depot on the corner of Fort and Princes Street.

     

    The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority will be having ‘Best In Class’, which is a series of school competitions, on May 30 at 8:00 p.m. at the Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

     

    The People for Animal Welfare on St. Kitts (PAWS) will be having an Adoption Day today (May 28) from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ross University Campus Large Animal Pavilion. Friendly pets will be available for adoption and persons will learn about caring for their pets. Toys collars, leashes and personally engraved pet name tags will be on sale, as well as bumper stickers.

     

    NAGICO Insurance Company Ltd. will be celebrating its 7th Anniversary of operating in St. Kitts and Nevis with big promotional events in Independence Square, Basseterre, St Kitts on Friday, June 3, 2011, and in Memorial Square, Charlestown Nevis on Friday, June 17, 2011. The public will get an opportunity to interact with the company’s management and staff and learn more about their products and services. Special offers on insurance products will be made available and they will also be providing free blood pressure checks and free blood glucose testing to patrons, courtesy of the International University of Nursing.

     

    Free giveaways and prizes include gift certificates of $100, Music Festival tickets and NAGICO Insurance souvenir items. Lots of musical entertainment will be provided and the event will be hosted by Junie Liburd of Freedom FM. The Customer Appreciation Day starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m.
