    GEORGETOWN, Grenada, June 1st 2011 - (CARICOM Secretariat,, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Hon. Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Grenada, on Monday lauded the moves by Honduras towards national reconciliation in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia on 22 May 2011.

     


    In a statement, Prime Minister Thomas extended congratulations on behalf of CARICOM to Honduras in the brokering of the Agreement for National Reconciliation and Democratic Consolidation in the Republic of Honduras between the country’s President Porfirio Lobo and the former President Manuel Zelaya. 
     

     

    Mr. Thomas praised all the parties and actors involved in the agreement which has led to the peaceful resolution of conflict in the Central American country.

     


    The signing of this important agreement, which establishes the conditions for the reintegration of Honduras into the Organization of American States (OAS) and all its bodies, ushers in a new chapter in the democratic process in Honduras, the CARICOM Chairman said.

     


    “The Caribbean Community looks forward to the continued strengthening of democratic principles by the Government of Honduras as enshrined in the Inter-American Democratic Charter and to its future participation in the OAS and its organs,” he  stated.
