The mammoth crowds that gave support and showed solidarity over the recently concluded Labour Weekend attest to the fact that after 75 years, the Labour Movement in this country is alive and well.

From the wall to wall crowd in attendance at Carnival Village for the 2007 Miss Labour Show, to the Carnival size crowd that lined the streets and participated in the 2007 Labour Day March, to the overflowing crowds at the Patsy Allers Playing Field for the Labour Day Picnic, by any account Labour Weekend 2007 was a massive success.

Despite the futile attempt by PAM to derail the Weekend's Activities by discouraging support for the Labour Weekend, the massive crowd support shows that the Federation is cognizant of the strides and struggles of the Labour Movement to improve the lives of ordinary working class citizens.

Again, loser Lindsay has failed to turn the minds and souls of the nation against the Labour Movement. This year he stepped up his efforts by holding nightly meetings leading up to Labour Day and even went as far as trying to hold meetings at the Industrial Site.
PAM message at all these events were the same "show the Labour Government and the Labour Union that you no longer support them by boycotting Labour Weekend."

If one were to apply his logic, the massive support shown to both the Union and the Party, shows that Labour is alive and well in St. Kitts and that loser Lindsay has no sway or influence over the people of this country.

By contrast, PAM's weekend would best be described as disappointing and discouraging to their supporters. But that is expected when PAM historically has shown contempt for the workers of this country or their rights.

The very fact that PAM, at its height tried to rename Labour Day to PAM Day and May Day, shows the contempt they have for workers and the struggles of the Labour Movement.

It is because the public knows of their hatred for Labour and all things Labour, such as Labour Day, why they are not seen as credible when they try to show that they are concerned about the workers of this country and their rights.

Their dishonesty becomes even more glaring and apparent when the public hears them trying to convince intelligent right minded citizens that PAM has been and continues to be the champion of the workers of this country and not the Labour Movement.

Perhaps they should realise that the small turnout at their public meetings is due to the fact that no one wants to hear a bunch of desperate politicians distort history and reality.

The relevance of the Labour Movement cannot be said to be a thing of the past. The workers of the Bottling Co., St. Kitts Breweries, Harowe Servo, The St. Christopher Air and Sea Port Authority, amongst others, can all attest to the modern day relevance and importance of the Labour Union. The significance of the Union is just as relevant today as it was during the monumental struggles of the sugar industry.

Workers of this country know that the only organisation that is genuinely interested in their well being and uplifment is the Labour Movement. It has been so in the past and continues to be so today. That is why when the workers of Lutron need representation they turn to the Union and the Movement, rather than any other organisation, especially PAM.

This reality is why PAM can only seek to influence the workers at the Industrial Site through bribery and intimidation and it also explains why they were treated with such hostility when they attempted to discourage the workers at the Industrial Site from supporting the Labour Movement.

Labour Weekend will continue to be a day of celebration by the workers, for the gains they have made over the years. And so long as they celebrate those gains they will remember that the Labour Union and Party walked side by side with them and struggled with them as those gains were made.

No attempt to distort history, nor renaming the day, nor feigning support and empathy with the workers of this country can or will change that fact that Labour is Alive and Well!
