The Effects of American Media on Caribbean Culture (Part 1)

By: Ervin C. Williams

For the next few weeks and maybe months, I will seek to write extensively on the interference of American Media on the Caribbean region and its people. The erosion of the culture as it was known within the Caribbean region is directly linked to the pervasive nature of Trans National Media Corporations (TNMCs)which includes Cable Television, Internet and other forms of Technological media types. In addition, it is no denying that TNMCs have created a specific mental perception of life in the United States of America among a great portion of our region's youth. This perception is that Americans live the ideal life. The dress code, the music and many sporting activities that now dominate the region are telling signs of a cultural shift. I will approach this writing by looking at the effects of these media types and technologies on Sports, Sports and Culture, the present Technology of Communicating in the region, the Time Line of Caribbean Technological emergence, technology in Schools, Technology in Politics, Technologies in Caribbean Social life, Television and the Perceived American values. STAY TUNE...This writing will unfold over a period of time.
