    POWER AT ANY COST

By now it should be obvious to all and sundry that Linsday Grant and PAM are determined to wrestle the reins of power from the hands of the Labour Party Government by any means and at any cost.

If this were not obvious before it would have become so obvious by reading last week’s edition of the Democrat Newspaper where our most trusted and loyal development partner, Taiwan, came in for lambasting and criticism from PAM for the sole fact that they have continued to assist with St. Christopher and Nevis while Labour is in control.

Aside from the blatant lies contained in the article that are sure to be the subject of legal action, the obvious gist of the article was to make ridicule of Taiwan and discourage them from continuing to help our National Development.

Rather than encourage the strengthening of ties between St. Christopher and Nevis and Taiwan, PAM has chose to characterize the substantial and tangible assistance received as “a bribe geared at reintroducing colonialism.”

At a time when most of the development aid around the world has dried up, Taiwan has continued to be a staunch and firm supporter to try and assist in developing not only our economy but our people.

As has been the constant pattern with the Democrat and PAM their aim is to besmirch the name of the Federation around the world all for the sake of gaining power.

Our National Motto of “Country above Self” for PAM has been replaced by “Win At Any Cost”.

PAM has now resorted to pulling out every dirty trick in the book to try and discredit the Labour Party Government locally, regionally and in the eyes of the international community.

There was once a time that PAM would boast that they were the ones who brought Taiwan to our shores. True as that may have been, the support that Taiwan has given to the Federation has increased tremendously because of the increased confidence and respect that Taiwan now has for the government of this Federation, which is a Labour Government.

The Democrat’s article is right in one respect. While PAM was in power the development aid offered by Taiwan was limited to mainly technical assistance.

Under Labour however that aid has increased to include human development in the form of scholarships, technical training aid assistance, to infrastructural development that includes the construction of the Warner Park Stadium and the Bird Rock Athletic Stadium.

These massive projects facilitated with the assistance of Taiwan have no doubt enhanced the landscape of the Federation and helped to transform the economy to take advantage of the emerging Sports Tourism Sector that has taken hold in the region.

Any blind and intelligent man should be able to appreciate and see the substantial benefits that have been derived from our relationship with Taiwan. Any build man except their so called hand picked leader.

There is an old adage that there is nothing worst that to be born with sight and lack vision. Apparently the entire leadership of PAM and the Democrat suffer from this curse.

Anyone reading the article can either determine that PAM is jealous of the assistance given to the Labour government to develop the Federation or equally sinister that PAM has clearly given an indication, God forbid, that should they regain power they intend to sever relations with our long time development partner, Taiwan, and forge relations with main land China.

The allegedly high level meeting held between PAM and representatives of another government in Antigua during the Stanford 20/20 is a clear indication that PAM plans to disregard Taiwan after years of steadfast assistance.

The Democrat’s article condemning Taiwan would obviously be ignorant to the fact that Taiwan has contributed significantly in giving us such a high human development index. The many computer labs established within our primary and secondary schools, the recently completed IT Training Facility, the many community  centre are testimony of a government that understands the development needs of our  Federation and can present projects that can be funded to achieve the desired development objectives.

The Democrat should be ashamed to admit that Taiwan has been far more confident in the Labour Party Government than they were with PAM which explains the substantial increase in Development Aid.

PAM has clearly decided to burn any bridge that exists between our two countries. Should they gain power their actions would clearly prejudice and undermine the mutually beneficial relationship that exists between the two nations.

Such actions by the Democrat and Pam should not be condoned, and we call on all right thinking citizens of the Federation, including the Chamber, to speak out and let their voices be heard. But it seems that some people only have mouth and strength to criticize the government (Labour).
