PAM will try any unworthy trick to deceive the public
    By The Thinking Citizen

The Sun St. Kitts-Nevis newspaper for Monday, 7 April 2008 carries the front-page Head-line “PAM STILL ON THE ATTACK.” Our Prime Minister has rented his property at Adam’s Hill, West Basseterre, to the Taiwanese who are using the property as an Embassy PAM is continuing its attack on the terms of the rental property.

One would have thought that since the Taiwanese are currently renting/leasing properties in other parts of the Caribbean that they would have a jolly good idea of what is fair rental. PAM and the Democrat however think that in the case of the property at Adam’s Hill the Taiwanese do not know what they are doing and consequently they need the PAM and the Democrat to advise and guide them.

We now know that our “First Ever” Prime Minister’s property at Godwins Estate was rented in the 1980s to Dr. Ronald of Ross University of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) or to Ross University itself. Dr. Ronald lived in the property and maintained a gym there on the property for the use of RUSVM students since the 1980s.

So far we have heard nothing from PAM or from the Democrat concerning the rental of the property at Godwins Estate. Apparently the terms and conditions of the rental are acceptable to PAM and the Democrat.
A number of real estate agents are wondering whether PAM is now in the business of monitoring the terms and conditions of all leases and rentals in St. Kitts/Nevis or only where our Prime Minister is concerned.
The other thing is this: Have the Taiwanese complained to PAM or to the Democrat? And if the Taiwanese are satisfied, presumably, with the lease arrangements in respect of the property at Adam’s Hill, why should anyone else be dissatisfied?

It would seem that in its attempt to find an issue that would stick on our Prime Minister; the PAM party leader has crossed the line. Surely the leader of the PAM party should be able to find something better to occupy his time and his attention, like for instance, explaining to the country the terms that were proposed during the secret negotiations for the sale of the Sugar Factory and several hundred acres of prime sugar lands.

The big problem with the leaders of PAM is that they all think that the people of St. Kitts and Nevis are stupid, forgetful and un-informed and so can be easily duped and misled by the foolish, reckless and irresponsible statements which they (the leaders) publish regularly in the news media.

People can still remember the sterling and outstanding record of the Labour Party in office up to 1980, and PAM’s dismal record between 1980 and 1995. And during the 1960s and 70s the PAM party tried its utmost to destroy and eliminate completely the National Provident Fund (NPF) and the Social Security Scheme (SSS).

In 1983 November the PAM government tried to convert St. Kitts-Nevis into a one party state with PAM in control. PAM used the nationals residing overseas to assist in the nefarious scheme. Fortunately PAM did not succeed with its intentions.

After PAM got in power in February 1980, the party sought to repay its financiers and backers by abolishing Personal Income Tax. PAM then mounted a very foolish propaganda campaign in which its agent and errand-boys went about telling members of the general public that the abolition of Personal Income Tax would benefit the ordinary man and woman in the street even though such persons had never ever paid Personal Income Tax. What stupidness PAM was PAM telling sensible people!

PAM is always pointing an accusing finger at the Labour Movement (party and Government) even when there is no need or reason for such finger-pointing. The PAMites have forgotten their party dealt with the matter of the Mandate for the development of the lands on the South East Peninsula. Now PAM is trying hopelessly to embroil the upright Prime Minister in some unnecessary foolishness because he has leased his property at Adam’s Hill to the Taiwanese. I do not know what the PAMites think that they are doing, for so far as I am aware neither the Taiwanese Ambassador nor the Taiwanese Government has complained publicly or privately to PAM.

One would naturally presume that if the Taiwanese felt that their St. Kitts based Ambassador had acted out of order or had exceeded his lawful power and authority he would have been brought  under control somehow or other. But so far as we are aware nothing like that has come forth from the Taiwanese side. It is only PAM that is making a whole heap of fuss over the matter. It would appear therefore that he Taiwanese Government is incapable of looking after its own best interest and that consequently it needs the help and assistance of PAM to guide it (the Government).

There is a group of Animal Rights people from overseas who have a problem with the procedure adopted by Ross University (RUSVM) to educate and train their students.

Rather than taking the matter up with the owners of the University who live overseas in the United States, the Animal Rights people are attacking our Tourism Industry and by so doing are potentially destabilizing our economy which has become more vulnerable especially at this critical juncture in the course of the world economy.
PAM however is not taking on the Animal Rights people. PAM has elected instead to take on our very loyal, patriotic and hardworking Prime Minister. PAM it seems has got its priorities badly mixed-up and confused.

PAM has not taken on the Animal Rights people. PAM has elected to take on the Taiwanese Government, the Taiwanese Ambassador and our Prime Minister. So far as most persons are concerned, nothing that the Democrat has printed or published up to now has shown that the Prime Minister has done anything wrong. Or that the Taiwanese Ambassador has done anything wrong. PAM is simply conducting a personal vendetta against the Prime Minister for partisan political reasons.

Those of us who were alive then can well remember that in 1979 PAM campaigned mightily against the move to take St. Kitts-Nevis and Anguilla into Independence. PAM argued that St. Kitts and Nevis were too small and too poor to be able to afford Independence. Yet as soon as PAM attained political power in 1980 the PAM Government rushed us all headlong into Independence in 1983.

Unable to meet its quota of supplies of sugar to the United States, The St, Kitts Sugar Manufacturing Corporation (SSMC) imported a shipload of raw sugar from Guatemala. The ship carrying the sugar arrived at the Port of Basseterre and stayed for a few days. After the few days the ship left Port for the United States with false papers certifying that the sugar that it carried had been manufactured in St. Kitts.

Even when the U.S. embassy in Barbados discovered that the sugar bound for the United States had not been manufactured in St. Kitts the PAM Government still wanted the officials in the Ministry of Agriculture and at the SSMC to swear that the sugar had indeed been manufactured in St. Kitts. PAM was passing-off sugar manufactured in Guatemala as if the sugar had been manufactured in St. Kitts.

PAM will try any unworthy trick at any time in an effort to embarrass any Labour leader. This current trick concerning the rental of the property at Adam’s Hill is just one more in the series. Remember how the PAMites went about proclaiming that the Hon. Dwyer Astaphan was not a qualified lawyer as he had never been called to the Bkar in St. Kitts-Nevis. The matter was heard in the High Court and the PAMites were proved to be spreading falsehood.

We have to be on our guard at all times. We cannot believe everything uncritically that is said by PAM or published in the Democrat.
