Director of Research and Development in the Ministry of Tourism, Ms Elmeader Brookes.
    Charlestown Nevis (April 15, 2004)
-- Nevis’ Ministry of Tourism has announced that the Annual Tourism Awards, last held in 1999, is to be reintroduced this year.

Director of Research and Development in the Ministry, Ms Elmeader Brookes, said that plans have been put in place for the event to be held on Saturday July 3 at the prestigious Four Seasons Resort at Pinney’s.

The event is held to recognise people’s contribution towards the development of tourism and she explained that an award could also go to an establishment.

“This year we plan to open nominations to the public,” explained Ms Brookes. “Nominations must be made by an individual other than the nominee. Those intending to make nominations have up to the end of May to submit the nominations to the Ministry’s headquarters at Marion Heights and all nominations must have supporting information.”

This year’s Tourism Awards event has more categories than in previous years. The categories are ten and include hotelier, industry employee, tour operator/travel agent/journalist/airline etc, taxi operator, long service, volunteer, corporate partner (local), agriculture, youth & sports, and culture/heritage/environment preservation.

“There are so many sub-sectors that are linked to tourism, but we decided to cut off at ten,’ noted Ms Brookes.
