BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 16TH 2006
     - The Queeley family in St. Kitts has been plunged into mourning following the fatal shooting of a mother and 7-year-old son in Miami.

Kittitian-born Carla Queeley, 34, and her son, Shaquon Watson, died from several gunshot wounds Saturday afternoon in a north Miami-Dade County neighborhood, as a birthday party for the boy was beginning.

A press release from the Miami-Dade County police carried on WSVN-TV said injured were Tony Chester, 4, Shantaria Kearse, 7, Ann Maynard, 31, and Shantara Maynard, 24. remained in serious to critical condition.

No suspects have been arrested and a possible motive has not been released, although relatives suspect it was a robbery.

Dahmie Queeley, a cousin of Carla, who lives in Palmetto Point, nearly four miles from Basseterre, the St. Kitts capital, said Carla was taken at an early age to St. Croix by her mother, Cieta, also of Palmetto Point. From St. Croix the family relocated to Miami.

"The entire family is in shock. We were told of the incident by a cousin in St. Thomas," said Queeley, an employee of the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

~~Adz:Left~~"This was a brutal act," said Curtis Maynard, 38, who said he was Queeley's cousin.  "They were trying to rob the house. Maybe they didn't expect that there was a birthday party."

Further details have not been released in what detectives described as an "ongoing, sensitive criminal investigation."
