    OAS Representative in St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Starret Greene
    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 1ST 2006 (CUOPM)   St. Kitts and Nevis is getting assistance from a western hemispheric organisation to standardise the Federations land registry and cadastre system,.

     

    This would improve the management in the areas of land registry, cadastre and real estate property; establish a legal, accurate and transparent land and property records; and improve the flow of revenues to the Government through fee collections for title deeds and other relevant documents, OAS Representative in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Starret Greene said in a statement.

     

    Mr. Greene disclosed that the OAS, in alliance with Stewart Information International, made a presentation of a project that would, among other things, support the development and modern system.~~adz:right~~

     

    During the presentation at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI), Mr. Jorge Duran, within the Executive Secretariat of the OAS for Integral Development, at its headquarters in Washington, D.C., emphasised the role of the organization in fulfilling its mandates for achieving improved governance through the use of appropriate technologies and explained the rational behind the OAS's efforts to support high technology programs in its member countries.

    Mr. Richard Petty, elaborated on the benefits of implementing a GIS cadastre land registry system, and presented a proposed Stewart's landfolio cadastre and land registry system for St. Kitts and Nevis.

     

    The proposed project will be discussed at the highest levels of the Government of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis with a view to arriving at an agreement on how to proceed with its implementation..

     

    The presentation was made before a number of Government Stakeholders in St.
    Kitts and Nevis, at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI).

     

    Among the participants were the Registrar of the High Court and Registrar of Lands, Ms. Pearletta Lanns and the Director of the Department of Lands and Survey, Mr. Calvin Esdaille.

     

    Both officials gave an account of the state of land registration and called for an immediate up-dating of the land registration system in St. Kitts and Nevis.
