Kittitian student and Caribbean Student Ambassador in Mexico Sonia Boddie spearheaded the first ever Caribbean Day in the Universidad Internacional on the 15th of November, under the theme "A taste of the Caribbean".

She said it was indeed a great success and as quoted by the University's President Javier Espinosa "This is the most successful event we have ever had".

She said the seating capacity was not enough for the hundreds of persons who attended the event.

She stated that to celebrate the Day, they first did a short presentation in the University's Center for Linguistic and Multicultural Studies for a group of Senior citizens visiting from the United States.

There Sonia along with an Antiguan counterpart rendered two folks songs "Mister Tally Man" and "Oh Island In the Sun" while Sonia also gave a Soca dance presentation.

She said the big concert was held later in the day in the University's auditorium, where the island of Antigua- Barbuda, Dominica and St. Kitts- Nevis were represented through dancing, modeling and expositions.

She says she also erected a St. Kitts- Nevis tourist stand where persons had the opportunity to view pictures brochures and get a taste of the tourism product that we offer.

Boddie mentioned that there is now a demand for the Caribelle Batik wears as her various outfits charmed the general public. ~~adz:right~~

"We can also expect a boast in the numbers of tourist attending Carnival celebrations in the Caribbean and especially in St. Kitts as I gave them an unforgettable performance "St. Kitts Carnival" in a Carnival Costume," she said.

Despite the fact that it took a lot of hard work and preparation with a very small Caribbean contingent of six and being the only Kittitian she is overwhelmed at the huge success accomplished.

She said to end the Day's event the public was treated to taste Caribbean Johnny cakes, Salt fish cake and Sorrel drink.

She said that the Caribbean has indeed left a taste in the mouths of many Mexicans, Americans, Asians and Africans who are now looking forward to making the Caribbean their next destination.

"I am always pleased to be an ambassador for my country and the Caribbean and this is just the start to bigger and better promotions for St.Kitts -Nevis and the entire region," she said.
