The New Year was ushered in with a near fatality after a road accident in Church Ground left Navada "Kaggi" Gittens of Cedar Trees trapped in his motor jeep for three hours on New Year's night.

Gittens was driving motor jeep PA 5133 in a westerly direction along the Island Main road at Church Ground in the vicinity of Stanley's when he lost control of the vehicle and collided into an electrical utility pole along the pavement.

The pole fell upon impact unto the front of the vehicle rendering Gittens immobilized for three hours in the motor jeep.

According to police reports heavy equipment operators from Public Works, the Fire and Rescue Services of Charlestown and Newcastle as well as Medical Personnel from the Alexandra Hospital were called upon to remove the Gittens from the vehicle around 2 a.m. the following morning.
