Basseterre, St. Kitts (January 10, 2007): Director General of ~~Adz:Right~~
Financial Services Ms. Fidela Clarke says her department is computerizing its registry in order to provide more efficient service to the general public.

The department, charged with the responsibility to incorporate companies, regulate the financial sector, provide business licenses and conduct due diligence, performs a major record keeping and sharing function.

Ms. Clarke said it was important to computerize the registration unit of her departments operations for a number of reasons including the lengthy process of manual filing and retrieving of files as well as the possibility that paper copies of documents can be lost or stolen.

She revealed that the new system would give the public access to currently held company positions such as directors, secretaries and shareholders. Files will also be easily retrievable and continuously backed-up, which decreases the likelihood of loss. The information is updated annually.

The director added that this would also speed up the incorporation of eligible companies with a few simple computer key strokes.

She added that many of the forms used by the department are already in electronic format and are being placed on the website at www.skbfinancialservices.com.

These forms can be downloaded, and eliminate the time it took in the past to collect forms from the unit.

The department has also improved the look and professionalism of its certificate, moving away from traditional forms of the public service and presenting a more official face.

Ms. Clarke said other measures to increase the Financial Services Departments public efficiency will be disclosed over the next few weeks.
