(Charlestown; Nevis): On Thursday, teachers of the Ivor Walters Primary School were greeted by flood waters upon their arrival to the school which is now located at the Brown Hill Senior Citizens' Home in Brown Hill.

The flooding caused classes at the school to be suspended until 10:00 a.m.  Some teachers at the school speculate that the floods were caused by a leak in the girls' bathroom, however after officials from the Public Works Department arrived on the scene, they ascertained that the floods were caused by a faulty pipe.

Principal, Wakely Daniel explained that since the school's relocation to the Brown Hill Senior Citizens' Home the staff of the Ivor Walters Primary School have been experiencing several technical difficulties. ~~adz:Right~~

"Throughout our stay at Senior Citizens" Home we have been having quite a number of problems with the plumbing.  At least three or four times we have had water overflowing from the bathrooms and flooding the entire school.  This flood originated from the girls' bathroom and Public Works officials say the tank itself was the source of the problem.

"Apparently, this time it happened during the night while we were not here so when we got here in the morning the school was flooded.  The water spread through Grade 4 to Grade 1 past the principal's office right into the kitchen.  We had to mop up and it took quite a while so that school started at 10:00 a.m. this morning instead of 8:30a.m.

"We had a visit from Public Works so I hope that means that we will not have a repeat of this sort of incident in any form or fashion."

The Ivor Walters Primary School relocated to the Brown Hill Senior Citizens' Home as a result of asbestos contamination at the school site at Brown Hill.  In response, Principal Daniel has explained that work is currently underway at the school and the staff and students expect to be able to inhabit the building by May 2007.

"Work has begun on the school in terms of painting etc.  They have started the kitchen and removed the tiles from the kitchen.  They have already painted the two Kindergartens and in addition to that we have moved the computers to paint the Computer Room as well as the books from the Library and Science Lab in preparation for the removal of the asbestos."

General contractor for the job, Errol Blake of Stoney Grove estimates the work to be completed in twenty weeks to enable the students and staff of the Ivor Walters Primary School to relocate to the school building in May 2007.
