~~adz:Left~~The St. Kitts and Nevis National Commission for UNESCO in Collaboration with the Potters House, Studio and gallery, will be holding a two week work shop, entitled The Miracle of Pottery and its Uses.  The workshop will commence on Monday 22nd January at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potters House in Camps Estate, Basseterre St. Kitts.

The main objective of this UNESCO funded work shop is to produce pottery with the use of local clay, using traditional firing methods. Participants will be taken through all the steps from clay preparation to making of pieces and firing in the traditional way.  Participants will in large part use local clay which is easily accessible, but some imported clay from the region will be introduced.

Participants will be shown a number of items which can be made using those methods and they will be encouraged to use their creativity as well as taking inspiration from the traditional pieces which are part of our heritage.
It is anticipated that this workshop will attract at least 20  24 persons where the target group is art students from the secondary schools and any other member of the general public, who would like to start a career in the making of pottery, where it will give all participants the ability to start up their own pottery making studios with as little start-up cost as possible.  In that way they would have an opportunity to become self-employed entrepreneurs.

The training workshop would be facilitated by Ms Carla Astaphan Potters House St. Kitts, with some assistance by Ms Elmina Cornelius, Newcastle Pottery, and Nevis.
This small scale project was approved under UNESCO Programme and Budget of 2004 -2005 biennium.

Interested persons are asked to register at UNESCO Secretariat on Cayon Street at Tel. # 466 - 8581 or with Carla Astaphan at the Potters House Tel. # 465 5947

The work Shop is free, but please notes that space is limited
