BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS/RESEDA, CALIFORNIA - Kittitian-born author Ercille Christmas, devastated by the September 11 terrorist attacks has written a journal on her personal thoughts tragedy.

Her work, titled "Thoughts of a Proud American: An Ode to 'Joe and Josephine Ordinary, Salt of the Earth Americans'" is now available through AuthorHouse.

According to a news release like most Americans, Christmas was devastated by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 and remained glued to her television, watching the events of heroism, patriotism and disaster unfold. Four days after the tragedy, Christmas began recording her reactions to these events in a journal. This journal became "Thoughts of a Proud American."

Christmas discusses the outpouring of emotion she experienced as the story of Sept. 11 unfolded. The journal includes her reaction to the story of the passengers and crew of Flight 93, the firefighters who fought to rescue the victims trapped inside the World Trade Center despite the personal danger they faced and the brave soldiers who accepted the call of duty despite the risk that they may not return.

Fully awakened after the attacks, Christmas continued to write her thoughts about stories in the news long after the coverage of the attacks ceased. She tackles a wide array of subjects, including child abuse and the people who work to stop it, natural disasters, politics and the injustices faced by ordinary American citizens.

In addition to her reactions to these news stories, Christmas shares her suggestions for the betterment of modern America as well as her hopes for the future, which she says lie in the hands of "Joe and Josephine Ordinary," the term she uses to describe ordinary citizens.

"This book will appeal to readers because it is a human interest story about how an act that was designed for evil caused a profound change in one individual and caused her to rouse herself from 'meandering through life' to produce a literary work and become even more aware of the welfare of her fellow human beings and do something about it," Christmas says.

"Many readers will be able to relate to the daily struggle of living life with all of its challenges and surprises and be able to triumph by not letting 'evil' win."

Though she was born on the island of St. Kitts, Christmas has proudly adopted the United States as her home. She continues to have strong ties in St. Kitts where many of her family and extended family reside. Before moving to the United States, Christmas taught English and Spanish to high school students.

After moving, she began working at the management level of the insurance industry. She currently lives in California where she hopes to buy a puppy and eventually adopt children. "Thoughts of a Proud American" is her first book. More information is available at http://www.thoughtsofaproudamerican.com.
