    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (JANUARY 23, 2007) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it will host the first annual Diplomatic Week in mid-February themed, "The Role of Foreign Policy and Diplomacy in advancing the National Development Agenda." The week of activities are scheduled to take place at the Ocean Terrace Inn from February 19 to 22, 2007.

    ~~adz:Left~~Diplomatic Week will bring together diplomatic and consular representatives of St. Kitts & Nevis posted around the world, non-resident Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to St. Kitts & Nevis, members of the local diplomatic and consular corps, and Foreign Affairs and other Government officials.
     
    According to Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris, Diplomatic Week 2007 is essential for the Ministry to pursue its diplomatic initiatives with clarity, mutual understanding, synergy, a sense of purpose, and a spirit of cooperation and collaboration.~~adz:Right~~
     
    "The exercise is aimed at improving communication networks with the various embassies and consulates accredited to the nation; sensitizing local and foreign representatives how areas of the national development agenda can be advanced through increased cooperation between countries heighten awareness and understanding of national positions on current International issues relating to energy, security, and economic liberalization; and most importantly to formulate and chart a clear course of action for nuanced and functional cooperation in the important areas identified," Dr. Harris concluded.
     
    Numerous activities are planned for Diplomatic Week including presentations, bilateral discussions, a lecture, visits to schools, and a visit to Nevis. Nerys Chiverton, the media contact person from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that greater detailed information about the activities planned for Diplomatic Week will be brought to the general public over the course of the next few weeks.
