Basseterre, St. Kitts, 24th January, 2007 - Imagine being paid to write an essay! That's what Tevin Phillip and Ivana Williams, two youths, have discovered.
Tevin Phillip of the Washington Archibald High today received US$200 for placing first in the junior category of a country wide, 2006 Children's Essay contest. Tomorrow, Ivana Williams of the Verchilds High School will receive the same prize for placing first in the senior division in the said competition. Their essays on, "WHY SHOULD MY COUNTRY BE INCLUDED ON A CRUISE SHIP's ITINERARY," were selected by a local panel to represent St. Kitts in the annual, regional Florida Caribbean Cruise Association(FCCA) sponsored essay competition.
" It pays to make a genuine effort and participate in activities. In some cases the reward may be monetary, as these two students discovered, in others it may be a boost to one's confidence or knowledge gaining. Regardless, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority congratulates all the students who took part in the local competition and we look forward to them challenging themselves again in 2007," said Unoma Allen, Corporate Communications Manager.'
The regional winners of the essay contest, were declared by the FCCA to be Dominica, in the junior category and Mexico in the senior.
