    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 24TH 2007 (CUOPM) - The economic transition taking place in St. Kitts and Nevis and the political situation in Haiti were among local, regional and international issues discussed Monday in Las Vegas, Nevada, between St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr.

     

    Denzil L. Douglas and United States humanitarian and political activist, the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

     

    Rev. Jackson Sr., President, Rainbow Push Coalition, met with Dr.

     

    Douglas in the Prime Minister's Suite at the Bellagio Hotel.

     

    Prime Minister Douglas informed Rev. Jackson of the economic transition now taking place in the twin-island Federation since the closure of the sugar industry in July last year.

     

    On the matter of Haiti, Prime Minister Douglas informed Rev. Jackson on the situation in Haiti, and what has to be done by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to bring stability to the social and political environment in Haiti.

     

    Prime Minister Douglas outlined the determination of the regional integration movement to provide technical assistance to strengthen the various administrative institutions in the Caribbean Republic.~~adz:Right~~

     

    Rev. Jackson thanked Prime Minister Douglas for briefing him on the various issues and wished him and his Government success in the economic transition of St. Kitts and Nevis and that the fruits of the success will be beneficial to the people of the Federation.

     

    He also took the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Douglas on the recognition being bestowed on him by the Trumpet Awards.

     

    Also attending the meeting between Prime Minister Douglas and Rev.

     

    Jackson were Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
