With much fanfare in June of last year the Government launched a program of consultations on the issue of Electoral Reform to be carried out over a specified period. These consultations were held with the public at large as well as with particular civic and religious stakeholders about the best way forward on this important issue.

The first phase of consultations also sought to solicit the views of nationals resident overseas and necessitated several trips abroad by the Electoral Reform Consultative Committee and support staff at taxpayers' expense.
An integral part of the process was the promised report to be completed and published by the committee which would outline the views obtained as well as recommendations on the way forward. The first report was due sometime at the end of November of last year but as yet nearly two months later, no report has been forthcoming.

This is a very serious omission of the part of the Government. The issue of free and fair elections is of the utmost importance to all citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis and deserves the fullest public hearing of this report. This report of the Electoral Reform Consultative Committee is not the private business of the Government but properly belongs in the public domain. We call on the Government to release this report without any further delay as it is long overdue.
