DUBLIN, January 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Vimio, a leading provider of media distribution solutions and content to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), is pleased to announce that its Live TV solution has been incorporated in a new Mobile TV service which has been launched today in Jamaica by Digicel Group ("Digicel").

Since its launch in 2001, Digicel has become the fastest-growing wireless telecommunications operator in the Caribbean and is a recent new entrant into the Central American market. After five years, Digicel is renowned for competitive rates, unbeatable coverage, superior customer care, a wide variety of products and services and state-of-the-art handsets.

Digicel is the largest GSM operator in the Caribbean with 4.0 million customers and operations in 22 markets including Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, Curacao, The Cayman Islands, Dominica, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, St Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago and Turks & Caicos. Digicel also has a license in Guatemala and coverage in St. Martin and St. Barts.

The new service will initially be offered to Digicel customers in Jamaica. Users will enjoy around-the-clock live local programming, including well-loved soap operas, news bulletins, music videos and sports programs, thanks to Digicel's partnership with Jamaica's national station, CVM TV and the country's leading music channel, Hype TV. It is expected that the new service will be available to roll out across Digicel's other markets, with a potential target audience of 4 million.

Malachy Harkin, Chief Executive of Vimio, commented:

"The adoption of Vimio's Live TV offering by Digicel is a very strong endorsement of our technology. They enjoy a strong position in an important market, so the fact that we are supporting their mobile television initiative should act as an excellent customer reference."

Ralf Ohlhausen, Group Products Director at Digicel, added:

"Vimio's technology allows us to offer our customers a wide range of high quality, live mobile TV material and is a great example of the exciting innovative services we're able to deliver with our world-class GSM/GPRS network.

"Our commitment is that the Pan Caribbean region should always enjoy the latest cutting-edge mobile technology. We look forward to continuing to work with partners such as Vimio as we roll out new service offerings."
