    The case of the Chief of Police verses Gavin Grant of Fort Thomas Road, Leon Thompson of Buckley's Estate, Leston Louard of Central Thibou Avenue and Ian Vieira of East Street, Newtown was heard. All four men were charged with two counts of "Possession of a Controlled Drug" and "Possession with Intent to Supply a Controlled Drug", as well as "Possession of a Firearm" and "Possession of Ammunition".

     


    Grant and Thompson pleaded guilty to the charges and were subsequently sentenced, while Louard and Vieira pleaded not guilty to the charges and no evidence was offered against them.

     

     Thompson pleaded guilty to the charges of "Possession of a Firearm" and "Possession of Ammunition" and was sentenced to serve nine (9) months imprisonment on each count to run concurrently.

     

     

     

    Grant pleaded guilty to the charges of "Possession of Controlled Drugs" to wit Cannabis and Crack Cocaine, and was sentenced to serve twelve (12) months imprisonment on each count to run concurrently. The court also ordered the forfeiture of $4,019.50 E.C. and $79.00 U.S. which were found on Grant at the time of the arrest.

     

     

     

    The offence was committed on 25th January 2007, when officers stopped and searched a motor vehicle driven by Vieira and occupied by the other men.

     

     

     

    At the Sandy Point Magistrate Court on Tuesday 6th February 2007;

     

     

     

    ·         Michael Blake of Wades Garden who was charged with the offence of "Driving without due care and attention" was convicted and cautioned.

     

     

     

    ·         Jevon Henderson of Conyers, who was charged with the offence of "Wounding", was convicted and placed on a bond in the sum of $1,000.00 for a period of six (6) months to keep the peace and be of good order. He was also ordered to pay compensation in the sum of $1000.00 in four (4) months or in default to serve two (2) months imprisonment.

     

      

     

    On Tuesday 6th February 2007, Chino Evans of Farms Site, Sandy Point was charged with the offences of "Carrying abroad an offensive weapon" to wit a knife and "Possession of a Controlled Drug" to wit cannabis, committed on 6th February 2007.

     

     

     

     

    On Tuesday 6th February 2007, officers of the Sandy Point Police District searched an abandoned building in the Farms Site area where they discovered a number of cannabis plants. Approximately two-hundred and seventy-five (275) plants ranging from three (3) inches to three (3) feet in height were found growing inside six (6) planting trays which could accommodate seventy-three (73) plants each. To date no one has been made accountable for the find.

     

     

     

    On Tuesday 6th February 2007, officers of the Nevis Task Force uprooted one hundred and fifteen (115) cannabis plants that were found growing on a piece of land south of the Golden Rock Hotel. The plants ranged from one (1) to four (4) feet in height and to date no one has been made accountable for the find.

     

     

     

     

    At the Charlestown Magistrate Court on Tuesday 6th February 2007 the following persons were convicted;

     

     

     

    ·         Denise Taylor of Bath Village who was charged with the offence of "Indecent Language" committed on 29-12-06 at Stoney Grove was convicted and fined $300.00 to be paid in one (1) week or in default to serve one (1) month imprisonment. She was also charged with the offence of "Threatening Language" and was convicted and fined $500.00 to be paid in one (1) month or in default to serve one (1) month imprisonment.~~adz:Right~~   

     

     

     

    ·         Ashley Sealey of Pond Hill who was charged with the offence of "Threatening Language" committed on 02-01-07 at Charlestown was convicted and fined $500.00 to be paid in three (3) months or in default to serve one (1) month imprisonment. She was also charged with the offence of "Battery" and was convicted and fined $500.00 to be paid in one (1) month or in default to serve one (1) month imprisonment.

     

     

     

    ·         Glenville Francis of Ramsbury who was charged with the offence of "Wounding" committed on 23-09-06 at Barnes Ghaut was convicted and sentenced to serve six (6) months imprisonment.

     

     

     

    ·         Gleary Weeks of Hamilton Estate who was charged with the offence of "Driving without due care and attention" committed on 09-12-06 at Government Road, Charlestown, was convicted and cautioned.

     

     

     

    ·         Marcus Huggins of Bath Village who was charged with the offence of "Possession of a Controlled Drug" to wit cannabis committed on 01-02-07 was convicted and fined $2,000.00 to be paid in six (6) months or in default to serve six (6) months imprisonment.

     

     

     

    ·         Matthew Williams of Hamilton Estate who was charged with the offence of "Parking in a no parking area" was convicted and fined $250.00 to be paid in one (1) month or in default to serve one (1) month imprisonment.
