(Bassterre; St. Kitts): What started out as a small bush fire turned into a large field fire today, Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Milliken Estate in St. Peters.  A resident of the area said that he sat on his patio from his home and saw the fire get out of hand and spread.

FSO OGarro said that they will monitor the fire that started burning canefields as well as some bushes down in a ghaut at the estate.  No houses were in immediate danger, however, the fire officer said that they will stay close by.  As is the norm, he warned the general public that it was against the law to start such fires. ~~adz:Right~~

We ask that you get in contact with the fire service and seek permission, and then we will see if it is possible for the fire to take place, he said.  One will be dealt with in court if they are found guilty of this.
