(Charlestown; Nevis): Members of the Nevisian general public are outraged at the recent implementation of a new payment regime by the local cable provider Caribbean Cable & Telecommunications and have voiced their concern that the new charge was implemented without sufficient notice and advertisement.

Among these voices is that of Principal of the Ivor Walters Primary School, Wakely Daniel who has categorically stated his dissatisfaction at the recent $21 increase in the price for cable service.

"I am outraged.  I have listened to the explanations given by the owners of Caribbean Cable & Telecommunication and I think that the gentleman has a lot more explaining to do.  One of the reasons that he highlighted was the expansion and improvements that he says that he made over the past year.  However, I feel that despite whatever improvements he may have made and the millions that he had to spend there has also been an increase in the number of households that subscribe to his service.  The increase in customers to my mind should have balanced out the amount that the company had to spend.

"Apart from that, what I find particularly interesting is that the owner of the company is not on island to witness the outrage of the people here on island.  It is his employees who have absolutely nothing to do with the new price increase and in fact cannot even explain the new agreement that has been put in place.  Right now I am confused as to how you work out the new payment that they have just put in place and the girls at their office cannot even explain.  They too are quite confused as to how to go about the new payment.

"I have spoken to them in a humorous manner that they are the most hated people in Nevis right now and they are quite aware of it and sadly they have nothing to do with it. Most recently I heard that the Utility Commission made a statement saying that the new price that the Caribbean Cable & Telecommunications is instituting is not binding and in effect we are to continue paying normal fees until the commission and the cable company comes to some sort of agreement", said Daniel.

In response to the actions of Caribbean Cable & Telecommunications, Daniel feels that Nevis clientele should demonstrate against the implementation of the new fee through a boycott of cable service.

"I personally feel that if this price increase stands the people of Nevis should demonstrate their outrage by disconnecting. We should decide that we are not accepting it and ask the company to come and disconnect their service from our homes.  Some sort of protest should be done! Right now the people of Nevis are financially bleeding and we are deeply affected", said Daniel in conclusion.
