    Mrs. Naomi Harris, wife of the late St. Kitts, Leeward Islands and Combined Islands Cricketer Len Harris cuts the ribbon to officially open the new round-a-bout at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport as St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister Hon.Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, other Ministers of Government and invited guests look on.
    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MARCH 12TH 2007 (CUOPM) - St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Sunday that the opening to traffic of the new round-a-bout at the Robert L.

     

    Bradshaw International Airport is a critical component of the twin-islands transportation infrastructure.

     

    "This new round-a-bout is designed to facilitate the effective flow and linkage of traffic coming from various areas of the island of St. Kitts. 

    Coming as a direct result of the construction of the West-Basseterre By-Pass Road, this round-a-bout is symbolic of the Government's active programme to enhance the environment for our own nations development," said Dr. Douglas during the opening ceremony.

     

    He said that the infrastructure development forms a crucial component in his Government's efforts to promote and facilitate investment in the country and much attention continues to be placed on ensuring that roads, electricity and water supplies and port facilities are of reputable standards that would promote confidence in the investment environment.

     

    Dr. Douglas pointed out that millions of dollars have been spent to upgrade electricity generation and transmission efficiency.~~adz:Right~~

     

    He said that the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport has gone through major enhancement to meet international regulatory standards and to ensure its own preparedness to handle increased numbers of aircraft.

    Invited guests applaud as Minister of Works, Public Utilities, Transport and Posts, Dr. the Hon. Earl Asim Martin and Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas drive on to the new round a bout at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.
    "Our sea ports also have been enhanced. We continue to monitor and upgrade the potable water supply including storage capacity, as we know that the expanding needs of the island must be accommodated to help facilitate economic progress," Dr. Douglas told invited guests.

     

    He noted that over the past few days there were official sod turning ceremonies for the construction of the new Pogson Hospital in Sandy Point and the construction for the expansion of the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw Building that houses the Social Security Scheme in St. Kitts and Nevis.

     

    "There is no doubt that the infrastructural development of this country is moving full apace under a very capable and caring Labour Administration," Dr. Douglas stressed.
