    Basseterre
, St. Kitts - Business Professionals and employees from two (2) of the leading Insurance Companies in the Federation, SNIC and Delisle Walwyn Caribbean Alliance, recently attended an intensive training course offered by the Association of Insurance Institutes (AIIC).

Mrs. Ruth Lake, Immediate Past President of the AIIC, facilitated the week-long course, which sought to formally train Industry and Business Professionals on the different facets of Insurance.

The class consisted of ten (10) sessions, and was primarily focused on the Law of Contract, Law of Agency, and Business Communications within Insurance Companies.

"The Insurance industry in the OECS, maybe except for St. Lucia, has not really done much formal training. Most persons have educated themselves at the higher level. However, this particular programme is a foundation course that will equip Industry professionals and others, with the information that will allow them to offer improved levels of service to their many Clients," stated Lake.~~adz:Right~~

One of the participants, Mrs. Nesta Seaton Clarke, General Manager of the St. Kitts-Nevis Insurance Company (SNIC) spoke of the training's importance to the profession.

"We (SNIC) are very pleased to have worked closely with the AIIC to bring this initiative to St. Kitts and Nevis. We have partnered with our sister Agencies and brought a very comprehensive and practical course to the Federation. With the CSME taking effect, this course will allow persons involved in the field of Insurance to augment their knowledge and skill sets."

The AIIC formulated the programme to be used in the Caribbean, as a foundation course. It covers two (2) main areas, the Basic Principles of Insurance and the Legal Aspects of Insurance.  The Caribbean Insurance Foundation Certificate, which is also recognized by University of the West Indies (UWI), is prerequisite for the Executive Diploma in Insurance.
