'Heavy Rainfall in Nevis Causes Massive Flooding
    (Charlestown; Nevis):
Heavy rainfall over the weekend caused massive flooding in several parts of Nevis over the weekend.

Meteorological officer at the Vance W. Amory Airport, Darron Sutton explained that the excessive rainfall which amounted to 80.4 millimeters was caused by a deep layer trough.

Senior Meteorological Officer at the Robert L. Bradshaw Airport, Maurice Mills further explained the significance of a deep layer trough in an exclusive interview with Sknvibes.com.

"A deep layer trough is actually a system where there is an elongated layer of low pressure.  Deep layer means that it goes from the surface higher up, it is not just a shallow area but it goes up to some height," he said.
He added that the deep layer trough was associated with a cold front that came away from the Northwest but by the time it reached Nevis it was no longer associated with cold front and that was just the trough that reached.

While Mills noted that these systems are expected at this time of year he also noted that weather conditions will gradually return to normal as soon as the trough passes unless there is some other weather system to replace it in the area.
