    Basseterre, St. Kitts (May 02, 2007): A number of local companies have stepped forward to support St. Kitts and Nevis' hosting of the first ever Caribbean Conference of the International Council for Health, Physical Education Recreation, Sport and Dance (ICHPER'SD).

    Slated for the Royal St. Kitts Hotel and Casino at Frigate Bay, the May 11 to 12 meeting will attract approximately 100 regional and international sporting officials, administrators and coaches.
     
    The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, Island Bakery and the Embassy of the Republic of Venezuela have pledged financial support for the prestigious conference.
     
    Chairperson of the organizing committee Rita Cable expressed appreciation for the kind contributions. She explained that this conference will bring additional exposure to the island, promoting its tourism product and highlighting the excellent conference facilities available.
     
    Ms. Cable encouraged other business houses to come forward and support this regional event. Sponsors will be recognized during conference activities and in related materials. ~~adz:Right~~
      
    According to its website, ICHPERD·SD is the largest, membership-based international and umbrella organization that includes professors, teachers, researchers, coaches, educators and administrators in the fields of HPERSD, as well as educational or research institutions and departments, colleges and universities, governmental and non-governmental national and international organizations.
     
    Meanwhile, the first pre-conference activity begins on Monday. Twenty-five young persons will be trained under the Caribbean Healthy Lifestyle Project (CHLP). Participants will learn about nutrition, leadership, decision making and teamwork among others.
     
    The focus of the CHLP is to promote sport, healthy living, leadership skills, and social responsibility among youth in the Caribbean. The May 7 to 9 workshop will be held at the conference room of the Warner Park Sporting Complex.
