Workers of the First Caribbean International Bank, were sent to the Post Office as Fire officials were inside the bank.
    (Basseterre; St. Kitts):
Workers at the First Caribbean International Bank as well as some patrons who were doing early morning transactions were forced to evacuate the bank's headquarters on Bank Street, Basseterre, following a false alarm on Thursday morning, May 3rd.

The incident happened just around 8:30 a.m.

The Fire and Rescue Services responded quickly to the sound of the alarm but fortunately they did not have to perform any counter measures.

According to an official from the bank, upon the sounding of the alarm employees from the various banking departments were asked to evacuate the building.

However, once the all clear was given by the Fire and Rescue Services, the bank reopened for usual business.

A prominent lawyer, who was passing at the time at time of the incident, said such incidents underscore the need for us to place more attention on risk response.

She noted that in many cases only when something unfortunate happens it is realized that various indicators or equipment are not working properly.

The solicitor expressed the need for more risk response exercises, especially in response to fires and bomb threats.

"We need to ensure that the fire alarms, the fire extinguishers, the fire escape, other escape exits and other important avenues are in good working condition, as they could be the one thing that saves lives," she noted.
