The ruling St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party is celebrating its 75th anniversary and the organization is capitalizing on the opportunity to trace the achievement from establishment to consolidation with an exhibition at Masses House, Church Street, Basseterre.

The exhibition was opened earlier today, Friday, and will showcase the pioneers of the Labour Party as well as the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union (SKNTLU) from which the Party germinated.

Initially, the SKNTLU was known as the Workers League but that evolved into a union that has worked tirelessly to better the working conditions of the masses.

Among the pioneers that have been featured at the exhibition are His Excellency Sir. Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw, first Premier and first National Hero, His Excellency Caleb Azariah Paul Southwell, former Premier, His Excellency Lee L. Moore, another former
Premier, Clarence Fitzroy Bryant, former Minister of Education, Health and Social Affairs and former Attorney General, Esmond St. John Payne, former Chief Executive Officer of the SKNTLU, Joseph Nathaniel France, former Minister for Social Services, Joseph Matthew Sebastian, FORMER President of the Workers League, Edgar Challenger, first President of the Workers League and Thomas Manchester, one of the founding members of the Labour Party.

A number of school students visited the exhibition and were busy taking notes, as they followed the path of history.

According to Ms. Wanda Connor, the Chief Executive of the Labour Party Secretariat, said it is imperative that the Party fulfill its obligation of letting the people know about the struggles of the yesteryear and how such struggles were the pillars of the economic successes of the country today.

Connor noted that a number of activities will be geared toward the celebrating of this diamond anniversary, including a block party in front of the SKNTLU headquarters on Church Street, later this afternoon (Friday)  and a fun day at the New Town playfield on Sunday.

The marquis events are the Ms. Labour Pageant, which is to be held on Saturday night and the Labour Day March.

The show will feature contestants from each of the eight constituencies and post show entertainment  will include the Grand Masters and Nu Vybes Band, and the very popular Mr. Vegas, a soca artiste out of Jamaica.

The march, as usual will commence at the Patsy Allers playfield, wind its way through Basseterre and culminate back at the starting point.

The Nu Vybes Band and the Grand Masters will also provide entertainment following the march.

Connor indicated that it is imperative that the public is made aware of where the struggles began and and what benefits they have produced.
