    Cadel Collns
    (Basseterre; St. Kitts):
Now who said that there is no hope for young people? Even though we see many of our young women are becoming teenaged mother's and dropping out of school and our young men are getting more and more involved with gangs and crime, there are still some good Samaritans out there.

They are members of youth groups throughout St. Kitts and Nevis who aim to make a difference in the community and in the lives of our people.

More specifically two of those youth groups are the St. Kitts Rotaract Club and the St. Kitts Leo club.

Recently they handed a check of $2,200.00 to the family of a seven month old baby boy by the name of Cadel Collins.

Affectionately now known to the community as "Baby Cadel" his story became a keen interest within the community therein as, as soon after he was born he was diagnosed with a complex cardiac lesion (VSD/ASD) and is in need of a major heart surgery.

Now with only a few more months to live, Baby Cadel needs to travel overseas for surgery.

However, a sum of US$25,000 is needed to cover the cost of surgery which has been scheduled for May 16 in New York.

That's where the youth groups come in.

They organized fund raisers and appealed to several businesses, so far they have had donations from several businesses in the community the Ministry of Gender Affairs and the Lion's Club.~~adz:Right~~

At one of their meetings held at the Ocean Terrace Inn, the check was handed over to Curtis and Xania Collins, uncle and cousin of Baby Cadel respectively, who accepted on behalf of the family.

They also hope to make the project an annual one because they know that different people go through different situations and decided that one of the ways they can give back to the community is by creating a fund name the "Baby Cadel Fund".

Curtis said that they were grateful for all the support they were receiving from the community and that the incident has brought the family even more closer together.

"We're now even more closer," he said. "Our family normally helps people and we're thankful that God has sent people to help us."

The family will be organizing a Cake Sale by The Museum on Saturday May 12, and if anyone would like to contact the family can call the father at 664-7590 or 465-7038 or 466-6278.

Additionally, if individual contributions  are still being solicited from the public who wish to contributions to this cause One may do so through the Bank of Nova Scotia at Account No. 10006345.
