    (Basseterre; St. Kitts):
No TV, no problem then. This is the message that the Maurice Hillier Primary School broadcasted to the general public during their seventh annual "No TV Week" celebrations, which culminated with the usual march through Basseterre, on Friday morning, May 11th.

Hundreds of students, teachers and parents and guardians marched with placards chanting slogans that coincided with the theme for this year's week of activities, "Avoid the TV snare, join in the family affair".

According to the Headmistress Icilma Springer, there has been much concern about the lack of involvement of the family in the educational growth of the children and she implored the community to be more involved in their educational upbringing.

Mrs. Springer recounted that in years gone by, there were very televisions and yet children were still able to have a lot of fun.

    No TV-No Problem!
She admonished parents to revisit such days and try to use their creativity to reduce the dependency on the TV, which has been commonly branded as the "one eyed monster".

One parent who marched along with the children indicated that the television is very instrumental to source information on current affairs and educational programmes but lamented the fact that a lot of parents allow their children to get addicted to the TV and do not monitor what they watch.

She sided with the school's headmistress and noted that the family needs to be more involved in the children's education and stated that it is essential that school students be encouraged to read more positive books and be taught moral values.

The children had a fun marching and relaying their message of that advocates more reading of books, and their message was indeed more forceful it is widely accepted that children have a way of getting their point across.

Already the young students are looking forward to next year's march.

All smiles for No TV Week
