    West Indies, May 18, 2007 -- bmobile customers and members of the Caribbean diaspora now have a new option for topping-up wireless accounts with the announcement of an agreement between bmobile parent company Cable & Wireless and Western Union

     

    Beginning today, any bmobile customer can visit one of more than 48,000 participating Western Union Agent locations across the United States to top-up their own bmobile pay-as-you-go account, or the account of a friend or family member. This capability is available only from bmobile in the Caribbean ' marking another innovative first from Cable & Wireless.

    Previously, bmobile customers traveling to the U.S. had to top-up their accounts before their trips. This agreement marks the first time they can top-up while visiting the U.S.  In addition, the agreement benefits Caribbean people living in the U.S., as they can top-up the bmobile pre-paid mobile accounts of their friends and family back home.

    "We are always working to make using bmobile more convenient," said Chris Hetherington, chief executive officer, Cable & Wireless Americas & Caribbean. "We know that traveling can be a time when you need your mobile most. Our goal is to make bmobile service work seamlessly wherever you are, and that starts with making it easy to put funds in your account. Now our subscribers have another great way to do that whilst visiting the U.S.A." 

     "A major facet of our strategy at Western Union is to enhance our consumers" experience by providing convenience and choice," said Royal Cole, executive vice president and general manager, Western Union Payment Services. "By offering travelers and residents the option to top-up their own accounts and the accounts of others, this agreement accomplishes just that."

    To send a bmobile top-up from Western Union, people need only visit any participating Western Union Agent location (visit www.westernunion.com or call 1-800 325-6000 for locations) and supply the Agent clerk with the phone number of the account to be topped up and payment in the amount desired.  Once the transaction is complete, the bmobile subscriber will receive a text message confirming that the payment (minus any home market taxes) has been applied.  The cost of topping up at Western Union is $5USD per transaction.

    This is the latest in a series of announcements from bmobile making it easier to use mobile phones while abroad.  Last year, bmobile was the first company in the region to launch Roaming eTopUp across all parts of the Caribbean served by bmobile.
