The aim of the course is to provide soldiers who demonstrate the potential to bear responsibilities of junior leaders within the organization undergo the training.

The focus of this course covered a wide array of topics to include Fieldcraft, Skill-At-Arms, Marksmanship, Map Reading and Navigation, Survival, Jungle Training, Physical Fitness, Military Tactics Field Exercises, Commander’s Endurance, Skill and Tactical Challenge.

Seventeen (17) soldiers started the five-week course with fourteen selected from different units of the SKNDF and three from the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF). However, only sixteen (16) soldiers successfully completed the course. The seventeenth soldier was withdrawn from the course and returned to unit (RTU) on the advice of the Force Medical Officer.

The course is designed to train, assess, evaluate and qualify soldiers who display the potential to bear responsibilities of junior leadership within the Defence Forces, and upon successful completion might be eligible for promotion to the rank of Lance Corporal.

However, if promotions are not automatic after successful completion of the course, successful students will become more productive in day-to-day duties and responsibilities and adequately equipped with the necessary qualifications to function in a leadership capacity when the opportunity arises.

The course training team comprised of Lt. Lynn Wilkins (SKNDF) as the Course Officer and Warrant Officer Class Two (W02) Garfield Jacobs (ABDF) as the Chief Instructor and a number of selected competent members of the SKNDF that make up the training team.

The cross section of training team allows for collaboration of teaching techniques and variety of experiences to help illustrate course materials to the students in the most comprehensible manner.

The presence of members of the ABDF amongst us exemplifies the close collaboration and cooperation between the two military institutions.

We support and cooperate in so many ways not limited to circumstance of this nature, but also in capacity building and operational successes as well as general progressive development of our organizations.
