Conaree FC go down 6-nil to Cayon FC

By: Akeem Hendrickson, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CONAREE FC suffered a humiliating defeat Saturday evening (June 4) when Cayon FC handed them a 6-0 trashing at  the Newtown Playfield.

From as early as the blast of the whistle that signalled the beginning of the game, Cayon FC demonstrated that they meant business and wasted no time in chalking up their first goal off the boot of Leroy Daniel in just three minutes of play.

Fourteen minutes later, the extremely confident-looking Cayon extended their lead through a header by Tyron O’Loughlin.

The remaining minutes of the first half produced excellent teamwork by Cayon’s players, who dominated ball possession and, the few times in which Conaree gained control was quickly and skillfully repossessed.

The second half was similar to the first, as Cayon, in the 46th minute, found the back of the nets once more, but this time off the boot of Jermaine Liburd.

Seemingly dissatisfied with the score line and envious of his teammates, Daniel netted his second goal in the 70th minute with a display of jaw-dropping footwork and superb ball control while evading tackles thrown at him.

The game quickly became 5-nil when a Kurt Morton power shot blasted the back of the nets, leaving Conaree’s goalkeeper amazed and rooted in the centre of the goal.

There was no way Conaree could have won the game at this stage. However, Cayon ensured that their opponents would never forget the Saturday evening’s thrashing by extending their insurmountable lead with a free kick just three minutes before the final whistle.

seemed destined to lose, but Cayon made sure they gave Conaree a beaten to remember, and just 3 minutes before the close of play, Cayon won a free-kick about 20 yards out.

The 20-yard free kick was taken by Melroy Morton who shot the ball relatively flat into the goalkeeper’s hands, which seemed to have been coated with butter. The ball rolled out of his hands, fell to the ground, trickled through his legs and slowly rolled to the back of the nets.

Cayon FC have not lost a game during the entire 2010-2011 season, making them favorites in the Premier League.
