SEDU Director, Mr. Kervin Patrice Wilkins
    (
Charlestown, Nevis) --- On Tuesday, May, 22, the Small Enterprise Development Unit (SEDU) launched its new website www.sedunevis.com.  They did so with a view to bridging the communication gap which exists for persons trying to obtain information about small business development.

SEDU Nevis Director Mr. Kervin Patrice Wilkins, during an interview with SKNVibes.com said that the recently launched website would also serve to give general insight into small business operations.

Wilkins said that in 2002 when SEDU was originally legitimized, issues such as E-commerce, CSME etc. were not part of the vernacular of small-businessmen and women and also not apart of their business reality.

"However, these issues now become common household terms.  Each of the aforementioned has exerted forces on businesses in ways perceptible and imperceptible, changing business rules and norms at an accelerated rate," he said.  "As with all living organisms, success lies in their ability to anticipate and adapt to change.  SEDU is no exception."

Wilkins said that in this day and age everyone is computer-literate and are always online.
"So the whole idea is for them to be in their home or office and be able to browse the site.  This is so that persons can be aware of the services that SEDU offers and also so that persons can be aware of the projects that we fund and finance," he said.  "We geared it towards giving persons tips on how to handle their financial affairs and really just to give a general insight into business." ~~Adz:Right~~

Although the website was unofficially launched on Tuesday, Wilkins expressed his intention to host an official ceremony after plans are finalized.

SEDU was established five years ago with a view to assisting small business people by offering financial assistance through the Entrepreneurial Development Fund which provides loans up to a maximum of EC$25, 000.

The Small Enterprise Development Unit which is located at the Cotton House in Charlestown is also closely associated with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) where they offer training opportunities as well as consultancy services for interested persons.

"In closing I would just like to encourage persons to check out the website as all of this is a part of the changing of SEDU's structure because presently we are striving to actually change the concept of Small Enterprise Development on Nevis," said Wilkins.
