Nevis Island Administration

Mrs Venetta Hobson Moving, Permanent Secretary with responsibility for Human Resources on Nevis
In an effort to create a greater awareness as to how persons could maximise their full potential, the Human Resource Department in the Nevis Island Administration set plans in motion to stage a Career Fair on June 06, 2007, at the Charlestown Methodist Conference Hall. The Fair which is designed to provide an opportunity for interaction, will be held under the theme "Shaping Tomorrow Today".

Mrs. Venetta Hobson Moving Permanent Secretary with responsibility for Human Resources told the Department of Information on Wednesday, that the Career Fair was in line with the NIA's thrust to develop Nevis' human resource since it was a key ingredient in national development.
"Our objective is to create that kind of awareness that persons know that they are important. They need to find out what their strengths and weaknesses are and how they are able to improve where they are so that they can get where they want to be...

"The objective is to showcase and present the many career opportunities which are available now and in the future and as such, we extend a cordial invitation to everyone but more so to our middle and lower forms of the Secondary Schools on Nevis, so that as they begin to select subjects they would be better able to make informed choices towards their own future goals," she explained.

Notwithstanding, Mrs. Hobson Moving said the Fair would also provide a window of opportunity for persons who sought employment, to persons who were considering a career change and also to potential employers. ~~Adz:Right~~

She said the Fair would provide an avenue for persons to learn life long skills, to uncover what turned them on career wise.

"We would want persons to discover what turns them on in terms of a career, the career they think they were meant for; what energises them because a career is more than just a paying job, it is something you enjoy, that you look forward to. So we are hoping that given this public awareness forum, that the young as well as those who are seeking second and third careers can really come out and experience some of what will be presented there and so they can say now yes I think I have got it!" she said.

According to Mrs Moving, the Fair has attracted the support of the private and public sectors and so far they had shown much interest. She said the Department was pleased with the public/private sector partnership which augured well for the development of Nevis.
