By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - The St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank (SKNANB) Limited has renewed its commitment to the development of female basketball in the Federation of St. Kitts-Nevis with its recent sponsorship of EC$10,000.00.

The largest indigenous bank in the Eastern Caribbean on Monday, June 6, handed over the cheque to the President of the St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association (SKABA), Kenroy ‘Romell’ Tobias, for the institution’s sponsorship of the 2011 SKABA Female Basketball League.

Tobias said he extended gratitude to the bank for their sponsorship that will help develop the female league.

“We are very honoured to have National Bank, back on board with us, with the recent renewal of their sponsorship, after a two-year hiatus from the league.

“So we are happy that they have renewed faith in the new executive for SKABA and that we aim to propel the female league and develop young promising athletes,” he said.

The SKABA Female League was introduced in 2005, where the SKNANB gave its immediate support as the league’s first and only sponsor.

The Bank has remained committed to the development of sports and in particular female basketball.

With the exclusion of two years, National Bank, since 2005 has contributed or supported in some way the league and has contributed over $35,000.00 to the development of Female Basketball over the last six years.

The National Bank SKABA Female League 2011 currently features six teams including defending champions the Lady Blue Devils, the Lady Roots, Lady Tuff Knots, Ross University, Cayon Lioness and the Lady Spartans.

This significant support for the development of female basketball by National Bank has resulted in the successful participation of the St Kitts National Female Basketball Team in the annual Antigua CPSTA Caribbean Invitational Tournament where they have placed in the top three for each of the last tournaments in which they have participated.

The SKABA Female League also boasts four (4) college players currently playing at American Universities namely Tennille Lapsey, Brescia Audain, Maliesha Caesar and Shacarma Warner.

Over ten (10) female basketballers have gained college scholarships since the inception of the SKABA Female League and the partnership with National Bank.
