BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 8th 2011 (CUOPM) - Denzil L. Douglas Jr. graduated from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cellular Biology, a Minor in Mind/Brain/Behavior, and a Foreign Language Citation in Spanish from the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures on Thursday 26th May 2011.
During his senior year at Harvard University, Denzil Jr. completed his thesis at Massachusetts General Hospital research lab in which he identified a key novel gene in a genetic pathway, giving insight in the pathogenesis of cancer and type II diabetes.
His thesis was nominated for the Thomas T. Hoopes Prize, and won 2nd place for the Lawrence J. Henderson Prize awarded to the best thesis in the Molecular and Cellular Biology Department.
During his sophomore and junior years, Denzil Jr. tutored students in Mathematics and Chemistry during his spare time, and volunteered in the Advocating Success for Kids Clinic in Boston Children’s Hospital where he assisted families of children with learning disabilities in gaining access to special education services. Denzil Jr. was also a member of the Harvard Caribbean Club, Harvard Step Team, and the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
This fall, Denzil Jr. will attend Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York where he received scholarships from the P&S Scholarship Fund and P&S Diversity Merit Award.
