BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A double by Leroy Daniel saw Cayon triumphant in their Tuesday night (June 7) match against Trafalgar Southstars FC at the Newtown Playfield.
Winning the match 3-nil, Cayon signalled their intention from as early as the eighth minute when striker Daniel capitalised on a defence error and outfoxed the goalkeeper to register his team’s first goal.
In the remaining minutes of the first half, both teams squandered opportunities, but during the break it seemed as if Cayon went back to the drawing board.
This was evident from the resumption of the game, as an energetic-looking Cayon immediately took control of the ball and increased their lead in the 66th minute off the boot of Travis Abbot.
In addition to being down by two goals, Trafalgar suffered another disappointment with the loss of one of their key players.
Mid-fielder Kebo Hanley was evicted from the game after receiving two yellow cards; the first in the 75th minute and the second in the 79th.
The first yellow card resulted from Hanley arguing with the referee after he awarded a free kick to Cayon, while the second one was because of an illegal tackle.
As play continued, Cayon were guaranteed their three points when Leroy Daniel, in the 82nd minute, scored his second goal of the match.
Cayon FC now joins SDP FC in the finals of the First Division Final Four after both teams have won two games with one game each remaining.
Trafalgar Southstars will this evening (June 9) play against Conaree at the Newtown Playfield. Match starts at 6:00.
