BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH both teams drawing their first Final Four matches, last night (June 8) SL Horsford St. Paul’s FC was victorious when they defeated Coury Gatorade Conaree FC 1-nil at the Warner Park Stadium.

This match had a very energetic start as both teams ran back and forth seeking an opening, as a win was very important.

After a disappointing 1-1 draw for both teams in their opening matches, S. L Horsford St. Paul’s netted the first and only goal of the match in the 31st minute with a blistering strike from Marvin Buchanan from over 20 yards out on the right wing.

At the start of the second half, St. Paul’s were given a number of opportunities which they squandered, even though the goalkeeper was their only obstacle to scoring.

In the 52nd minute, St. Paul’s were awarded a free kick about 22 yards out, which saw Conaree going a man down as Shawn Martin was red carded for his challenge on Javeim Blanchette.

The score-line however remained the same as St. Paul’s did not capitalise on the opportunity.

Conaree, at this time with 10 players, stepped up the pace. They kept pressing for an equaliser and came the opportunity presented itself in the 71st minute, but the ball struck the crossbar of the St. Paul’s goal leaving them in a state of bewilderment.

In the dying minutes of the game, they again launched an all out attack, but it was too late as the referee blew the whistle ending the game 1-nil in favor of St. Paul’s.

With two games remaining for both teams, the competition is still wide open with St. Pauls having the only victory so far in the Premier Division Final Four.
