The young man in the white T-shirt, being apprehended by the Defence Force Officers
Defence and Strike Force officers were able to apprehend a young man who was involved in a fracas on Fort Street at about three in the afternoon on Friday, June 1st

The other young chap who was involved managed to flee the scene.

Both young men were wielding long knives. Their aggressive actions caused much alarm among pedestrians who were in the area at the time of the incident. As usual, Fort Street was a busy thoroughfare as many persons were "liming" and shopping.

The Defence and Strike Forces were able to respond quickly because a Defence Force officer witnessed the altercation and quickly called for back up.

Up to the time of the posting of this report, Defence Force officers were searching for the knife which the young man who was apprehended apparently hid nearby.

There has been much concern about the violent nature of youths, especially young men, today and a concerted appeal is being made for them adapt more positive lifestyles and to stop the violence.
