~~Adz:Left~~ PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (JUNE 4, 2007) -- Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, Ph.D. Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry and Commerce, is leading this Federation's delegation to the Regular Session of Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly being hosted in Panama City; Dr. Harris is supported by Ambassador Dr. Izben Williams and Minister's Counsellor Jasmine Huggins of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Permanent Mission to the Organization of American States.

The General Assembly is the supreme organ of the Organization of American States.  It has as it's principal powers to decide the general action and policy of the Organization of American States, determine the structure and functions of it's organs, and consider any matter relating to friendly relations among the American States, to approve program budget of Organization of American States and determine quota of member states etc.

In light of the growing concerns related to the development and use of energy, the 37th Organization of American States General Assembly will address the issue of Energy for Sustainable Development as its central theme.

Commenting on the theme Dr. Harris said, "modern energy including the electricity to light our homes, gas for our stoves and cars etc. is an essential ingredient in the growth and development of the twenty first century. The fluctuation in petroleum prices has been a burden for our citizens, private businesses and government alike and is real risk to our on going growth and development.  We need a reliable supply of affordable and clean energy.  We must forge a pact between producers and consumers alike."

"I look forward to the discussion on this critical area and will be keen discuss emerging solutions that may be pursued including the effective use of innovate technologies and services, policies, financing and hemispheric cooperation," Dr. Harris disclosed.
