"Too Many guns in this land, too many guns passin' roun' " - the popular song contends. Whether it is perception or fact, the number of gun related criminal acts has certainly raised the eyebrow of concern throughout the general public.

The latest "straw" was the Police's find of a hand gun and ammunition while executing a search of Denzil Williams' premises at Fort Thomas Road, Basseterre, on June 4th.

According to the Police, a young male, just seventeen years old, was stopped and searched and he was found with a .38 special revolver, with 6 rounds of ammunition.

In addition, the search of the premises itself yielded three 12 gauge shot gun shells and a magazine with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, which was found concealed in a wall.

The find just amplifies the need for proactive measures to be taken to curb the alarming number of gun related crimes that have occurred in a week's time.

Nevis business man, Edric Stanley, was shot multiple times in an attempted robbery, a young lady from Douglas Housing Extension was shot in her leg in an apparent robbery, a young man was shot in his leg in College Street Ghaut, another young man was shot in his leg on Cayon Street, and yet another young man was shot in his hand in New Town- these are just the shooting incidents that have been reported in less than a week's time.   ~~Adz:Right~~

Indeed the shooting incidents are a cause for concern, as the Police are doing what they can to contain the situation. They are also soliciting the assistance of the general public in apprehending the perps.
